Indie film Anora is officially an Oscar winner. Shot on a $6 million budget, the rom-com took home Academy Awards in five out of six of the categories it was nominated for, including best actress for star Mikey Madison and best picture. Movie fans can stream Anora on demand on Hulu later this month.
Baker won for producing, directing, writing and editing the action-tinged black comedy about the relationship between a stripper and a Russian oligarch’s heir, played by Mark Eydelshteyn. Baker’s capturing of four Oscars for the same film is a feat that had never been achieved in Oscar history. He and Madison both thanked the sex worker community for sharing their experiences with the stars and filmmakers.
