The season’s first episode gathered 7.5 million views worldwide in the five days after its March 4 premiere — with a run time of exactly one hour, that means 7.5 million hours of watch time — to become the most watched premiere on Disney+ of the year so far. Even though it did not get a theatrical run in the United States, Universal Pictures and StudioCanal’s sequel Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has topped a box office milestone with $100 million worldwide in receipts. Filming in L.A. picked up at the end of 2024, though overall production last year finished at historically low levels. Local shooting in 2024 recorded 23,480 shoot days — the second lowest figure observed by FilmLA outside of 2020 when filming was halted amid the pandemic. As concerns about runaway production mount while California looks to balance its budget and prepares for potential federal funding cuts, top Hollywood unions are pulling out all the stops to support proposed expansions to the state’s film and TV tax incentives program.

TV Distributors, Ranked
Disney retained its spot atop the rankings of TV distributors in January, recording its highest share of viewing in the year-plus Nielsen has been compiling such figures. Netflix also hit its best mark so far. For the January reporting period Disney outlets captured 12 percent of all TV use in the United States. That’s the most for the company in the past 15 months, when Nielsen started compiling TV usage by distributor.

FBI Footprint Shrinks
CBS, home to more franchise shows and spinoffs than any other network, is actually cutting back on one of those franchises. The network has canceled FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International after six and four seasons, respectively, despite both still pulling in solid ratings. Both shows average about 7.5 million viewers after a week of cross-platform viewing, ranking among the top 25 broadcast shows this season — which makes them prime candidates for the unfortunate title of "most watched canceled series" of 2024-25. The flagship FBI series will continue on CBS, and another spinoff involving the CIA is in development.
